On Tuesday night - October 22, 2019 - I returned to Windansea Beach in La Jolla to shoot some more milk 🍼 and selfies. While it was low tide during my previous visit, the tide was quite high this time. It was a challenge walking through deeper water and climbing a few rocks - all while keeping my camera gear dry. I ended up getting drenched from the waist down, but kept my camera above water the whole time. I shot these with a Canon 6D and my good ol' Sigma 15mm EX DG lens at 13 sec f/5 ISO 6400. Unlike previous Milky Way shoots, I used a higher aperture this time - so that I could have a longer depth of field and have myself be more in-focus - not just the Milky Way. 🎵After I go to the beach, can I shoot some more Milky Way? I really need to do that But first, Let me take a few selfies 🎵
Me on top of Palomar Mountain watching the Milky Way. I like the transition from very bright light pollution down below to nice dark skies and the Milky Way up top. This area of Palomar Mountain is about 5000 ft (1524 m) above sea level. Like many of the higher peaks in San Diego, it provides a means to enjoy dark skies, lots of pine trees, and and overall nice escape from city and suburban life. I shot this on October 19, 2019 at 7:54 PM with a Canon 6D and Canon 50mm lens at 5 sec f/2.5 ISO 3200.
